I pointed out that I’d spoken to more than one vet, 2 vets. I don’t think
most people have money to waste, and a can of sardines once a week just the
no name one’s will really help.

I won’t waste money on my dog, I wasted enough having tests done that
showed no solution for the problem. The sardines really did help.

Yes, I understand that, some humans have dry skin for no apparent reason,
its the way they are. Yes, tests are expensive, but just bunging these
Omega pills down the dog isnt the answer either. Soometimes these things
are seasonal too, as I had a dog with seasonal skin problems. For m e it
would be a case of discussing with the vet, asking what the options are,
and discussing each one in depth, which is what I do with all my animals.
and then drawing my own conclusions, but some arent that way inclined. Most
of these so-called remedies are harmless I would think, but one does still
need to be careful. A friend of mine once had a cat with worms, she went to
the pet shop and bought wormers, which made the cat ill, as they were the
wrong sort, so instead of saving money which is what she was trying to do,
she ended up spending more as she had to take the cat to the Vet any7way
to be put right. We are talking about dogs but the its the same principle.

Hello Julia,

I wish to make a few other comments here, that I stupidly didn’t in my last
post on this subject.

It isn’t as straight forward as finding out what is causing the dry skin.
While I agree it a good idea if one can, it isn’t always the case where a
vet can work this out. With some dogs it is just far to tricky, no matter
what tests are done.

Then there is the cost of these tests, and I had them done with my second
dog for no results, two vets couldn’t pin down the issue. Part of it could
be breeding, at the end of the day I was prepared to pay far more for some
results, but was told there would most likely be none. Some dogs not all,
but some can just be to complex. Although a person might not know the
issue, sardines do help.

Certainly the dry skin, but I doubt the shedding. In conjunction you might
consider one can of sardines in spring water per week, just put in with the
food. They also help with dry skin and other issues. I doubt they would do
anything for the shedding though.

a friend of mine told me that giving the dogs an omaega 3 capsule in their
food can cut down on shedding and help with dry skin which callie suffers
with a bit. have anyone else ever tried this?

Pam,

The soft Slicker brush I've got is £4.00 at Pets@Home, though there are
other models from £3 to £10. Some are dual Slicker and bristle brushes.
