Maybe you could limit the size of a company, instead allow unlimited
alliances between companies. That way it's easy to finally finish making a
new corp. as an expansion of your old corp.
A nice thing about the limited resources is that you could solve one of the
oldest problems in MMOs: economy. It's easy to see why most MMOs have this
problem: there is no economy. As my old Economics teacher put it: Economy is
the science that studies how to spread limited resources to people with
unlimited wants. The unlimited wants always are there, but in most MMOs
there's also unlimited resources (in the sense that a sword is just
*spawned*). Maybe with limited resources (and the fact that people will have
to *make* everything) will allow for a more complex but stable ingame
economy.
