Couple of things, Ed the AIM codes are available to me (an employee) without VPN login in the location you cited, but I am not sure about customer access. The turn-around time for getting new AIM codes is very short, 1-2 days at most via email. If an emergency, a phone call will do. I prefer email, and then I can copy/paste them into the .tcp file or in the GUI. I've never felt much pain in this process. Second thing, while I am a resident at my home and not Valero, as is Ed, I have backed-up and restored numerous boxes for upgrades and replacement. I used Acronis for Servers and Ghost for XP before we started selling the BESR. The BESR works great. I am currently working an upgrade in our Houston Lab, two P91's, IA 8.2 > IA 8.4.2, with Infusion 1.0 > 1.2. The IEE client P91 has AIM historian, AIM OPC Server, Report Package 5.0, Opalis, is CSA host and PI host. This computer has 3 partitions, C, D and E for PI. I ordered an exact replacement for the upgrade, with 250GB RAID 5 and did a Symantec backup of the 'new' box as it arrived so I could restore, if needed. Then with Disk Manager I deleted C and D, and created a new C at 50 GB, new D at 100GB and new E at 100GB. I then restored the box with the Symantec image I made at customer's site. After editing the registry and connecting to a switch, all worked well. I connected a couple of FCP270's and did some basic testing on applications. Took about an hour for both boxes. Seems the boxes as shipped from the factory have 32GB for C and the rest for D on a 250GB drive, not sure why the skimp on C, but 32GB is not enough for the above applications, plus MS Office. I am an employee, so my access is a little different. For me it is under Support --> Foxboro --> Aim Temp Authorization. Aim* Regenerator is there also, but I have to VPN into our network to get to it. :( Bracing for the 20 out of office autoreplies. :) -----Original Message----- From: foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:foxboro-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of tjvandew@xxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, February 15, 2009 1:55 PM To: foxboro@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [foxboro] Upgrading Foxboro AW from P91, (Dell 2800), to P91,(Dell 2900), 2003 Server Jack, Thanks for the feedback about being able to do a full restore to same vintage hardware. We haven't tested that yet but that was our hope in buying two identical P91 2900's for this critical box. We had an underpowered 2800 with a single hard drive that was one of a kind and we were afraid that we would not be able to recover to another box in a timely fashion if it failed. When you restore to the same vintage I assume you must take the Allied Telesys fiber NIC's out of the old box and put them in the new box to make it work without any further modifications. Is that correct? You are absolutely right that the hostid, (ASCII string), cannot be found in any file on the hard drive. We did a search of all files for the string which was something like "4460fbe1" and came up empty handed. The AIM API Admin must interpret it from some other source for display in that application window based on DAY0 install information?? Alex, we are interested to know if we, as users, can get to the "AIM Temp Code" pick on the website. Maybe that is what Ed Larsen was responding to in his garbled message earlier.
