Tom, The easiest quickest thing to do is move old NICs to the new box. I have also been told you can do it with a committal after 1st boot to readdress MACs on new NICS, but haven't tried it. I also heard (or read) that Fox has a registry hack for new NICs as well, but unless a NIC fails, swapping is simplest. I fear we users can't get to "AIM Temp Code" on Fox site (unless Fox changes it, let's hear it for an indignant outburst from the masses), as the only time I have done so was while logged in as a student at AIM training. Of course, this ability was taught in class as something everyone could do. I know the AIM group came from somewhere else and live in a world different from the rest of Foxboro, but this AIM licensing issue is really an unnecessary pain! At the very least they should give us all access to "AIM Temp Code", AIM License Converter, plus on-line permanent code generation with the proper inputs. This snail-mail thing is medieval. I also came across a Fox document this morning (not sure if it was a quick-fix or car) about a new AIM license code being regenerated by the AIM license converter not working when put in using apiadmin, but that it did work when put in the an_init.tcp file and AIM restarted. We experienced this failure (code not accepted) Friday and we will try putting this regenerated license code in the an_init.tcp file tomorrow when the Fox field rep working on site returns. We haven't tested that yet but that was our hope in buying two identical P91 2900's for this critical box. We had an underpowered 2800 with a single hard drive that was one of a kind and we were afraid that we would not be able to recover to another box in a timely fashion if it failed. When you restore to the same vintage I assume you must take the Allied Telesys fiber NIC's out of the old box and put them in the new box to make it work without any further modifications. Is that correct? You are absolutely right that the hostid, (ASCII string), cannot be found in any file on the hard drive. We did a search of all files for the string which was something like "4460fbe1" and came up empty handed. The AIM API Admin must interpret it from some other source for display in that application window based on DAY0 install information?? Alex, we are interested to know if we, as users, can get to the "AIM Temp Code" pick on the website. Maybe that is what Ed Larsen was responding to in his garbled message earlier.
