Is there such a thing as a USB hub with the ability to supply power itself. If so that might be a solution to your problems. Similarly if you have a drive with two USB connectors maybe there is something like a stand alone power supply with a USB connector on.
Relevant to this discussion but a bit late, I've long used standard hard discs in cradles as a means of shifting data about. Just about when the SyJet, Iomega Jazz etc. removable discs came out, it became apparent that a hard disc in cradle was as cheap. So back up to hard disc is sensible.
As to going off topic - maybe we should turn this into a vets discussion list. You know what we are doing PA (after Acorn).
