Maybe they just spent more time on vanilla SF4 than SFV?
No idea how long either was in development before they were released tho... so
just spent less time and released it early with upcoming "free" updates and
additions.
I personally dont mind the way the game looks tho... except for Ken... dat
hair...
Cant comment on how the game runs on lower spec machines but on my machine its
running smoothly with everything maxed out and my GFXcard is sitting at about
40% load at 1080p. Only need to start turning down settings if I raise the
resolution to 4k.
I dont have MKX, Xrd or other new fighters on PC to compare with tho.

Yes, but it's the case for many other people.
https://twitter.com/SFVServer/status/693265752845996032?lang=en
The general consensus was that the last beta was the worst of the lot in terms
of netcode and matchmaking. What's more, they still haven't proposed any
solution to rage quitting. One would think they would have used this
opportunity to test something like that.
I'm starting to wonder where all the money went when they developed this game.
Vanilla SFIV had more in terms of features, characters, stages and music. And
that was a game that Ono admitted that it was nearly impossible to get funding
for. It also had very little going for it in terms of marketing.
SFV is a mild graphical upgrade if you compare the time and hardware generation
difference. The aesthetic direction is a step backwards IMO (Zangief CA
hype...zzzzz), and there is less on offer overall. It's even more baffling
when you consider that there's less to animate because there are less moves and
stuff like neutral jump attacks are the same as the angled jumps in most cases.
We are 2 weeks from release and they still haven't even bothered to fix the
clipping issues on the character VS screen. How does Ken have *worse* hair
than his SFIV iteration? After so long we learn that Vega wears a mask not
because he's beautiful, but because he's fugly? How do those horribly animated
background spectators even exist in this day and age? They are SFIV level of
quality, with less personality.
Even the reveal trailers are bland compared to stuff like SSFIV's and SFxT
reveals. The game is also terribly optimised on PC. Compare that to Xrd which
plays flawlessly.
People tell me I'm nitpicking but lets be honest here. The difference between
MK9 and MKX is light years (although MKX also sucks on PC). The difference
between SFIV and SFV are a few shaders, keyframes and a questionable palette.
I personally feel that they should have spent more time on actual game
development than marketing.

What I don't get is how the netcode and matchmaking got progressively worse
each beta.
The matchmaking doesn't work as advertised. I have a network monitor running
while playing so I can check the network calls. If you set your connection
status to "5", it means you should only get matched up with people from your
region. This is obviously not the case as the server sends me match candidates
with pings over 200ms. If you set your connection status to "any", it means it
should match you up with anyone, but on the last day of the beta I got like 1
match every 30 minutes, if that.
Their API in general is also poorly written. Their server returns HTTP Code
500 when it doesn't accept your requested match candidate. To someone
unfamiliar with the service it's like showing a blue screen of death instead of
an error message. The beta itself is so bad that it contains default assets
that they used for testing, including IP addresses and passwords. Really
shoddy.

I was thinking more along the lines of system flexibility, i.e. what is
possible post-release compared to pre-release.
Would it really make sense to give people early access to the exact same
version of the game they'll be playing on release day? By the time the game is
released, people would have figured out most, if not all tech there is to
discover which would make the release incredibly underwhelming (what else is
there to discover?)
It's not so much about introducing new system features/mechanics but about
restricting what is possible in betas and removing said restrictions
post-release.

Isn’t the point of the beta to fix issues that you don’t know about – provide
some sort of QA on the stuff? That’s pointless if there
is a large amount of content they didn’t put in.
Sure, it’s possible that they’re hiding extra characters or whatnot, but I
don’t see the point in having a beta if they’re going to
have large shifts in the system. And it is the overall system that people are
complaining about right?
I’m just happy that the game has shifted enough that I might finally be able to
get into it.

Morning peeps,
After I had a short discussion with SAP surrounding sf5.
I realized something, that in essence two things can happen at launch:
- the game is going to be just like the beta and theres going to be
nothing added
- Capcom will release something resembling sf5 beta but it will there
will be other "stuff" added.
Sap is optimus prime on this one and believes the 2nd scenario will happen as
he sees it as a dumb move on Capcom's part to reveal everything about sf5 on
the beta. I believe
Capcom is a dumb company and do make mistakes. theres nothing else coming,
this is it, I hope not , but I think it is.
Thoughts?

probably not :P
