I think that SFV is one of the most straight forward of the SF games to
understand in terms of strategy. It's even simpler than SFII in that regard.
It sounds weird because SFIV has all these new mechanics, but you'll often hear
people say "one thing I like about SFV is that I knew exactly why I lost".
Case-in-point: Lindseyboi. This is like the only SF game ever where he tried
to analyse his play, and was pretty much satisfied with his conclusions.
In SFII and even SFIV to an extent, you can lose every match without
understanding anything. I'm not even talking about stuff like Vortex or Option
Selects.
I tried to explain it at the session last time I was there using a very basic
example. Imagine you do a heavy move and the opponent blocks it. Beginners
will find it much harder to understand the same scenario in SFII and SFIV than
in SFV.
In SFV, you'll get punished if because you're at negative frames. You don't
really have to put a lot of thought into this interaction to understand it.
In SFII, you'll be safe because of the pushback, even though the move might
even be more negative than in SFV. If the opponent tries to counter poke, you
can whiff punish if you stand up to make your hitbox narrower. If you get
pushed back further than their longest poke, they might try to fireball
instead, and they risk eating a counter-super, or a jump on a hard-read. They
can choose to walk forward during your negative frames instead to put them in a
better position, at which point the RPS footsie game kicks in.

Otherwise you can sail the seven seas in the meantime with Xrd till steam gets
Revelator.
Sofar there hasnt been any balance changes in Revelator so Xrd stuff works.
They will probably do a balance patch sometime after the console release after
the new characters has settled in. (Like they did with Xrd)

That's interesting. Now using breakers are a bit more worthwhile. Before the
one who used the breaker is put on a defensive position while the opponent can
just run up and continue his pressure again due to having stamina.
