what was cool to me about hong kong is how everyone talked like the chinese
do in the movies.  then i realized it's because most chinese movies i
watched were actually made in hong kong, not mainland china, and the speech
idiosyncracies i was used to were more common among cantonese speakers
(like in hong kong) than in mainlanders (mandarin speakers).

Hong Kong:
"Can I get 4 prawn dim sum?"
"U WAN 4?  NO PWAAHBWEM!"

Mainland China
"Can I get 4 prawn dim sum?"
"FOR PWORN DIM SUM OK"
