Well, I have never been particularly fond of vampire books, only one I truly enjoyed was Salem's Lot by Stephen King. Actually, have read a couple of others too but it isn't my favorite. (Especially "interview with a vampire".) Some may argue that it goes further back to the dracula book and movie, but I don't think so. I think ms Rice can be credited with starting the current rash of vampire novels. Vampires are the classic tragic heroes. They have a flaw that will eventually bring about their downfall, but it is through no fault of their own. Fantasy is not my favorite genre, but an occasional vampiric story is enjoyable. I do hate stories that rely heavily on magic where every twist and turn is unpredictable because magic is the indeterminate weapon. Just my thoughts.
