Just a word of warning--don't try this with the newer devices from FS,
specifically the PAC Mate. These devices have batteries that are 100%
proprietary and they cannot be replaced by Batteries Plus or similar stores.
The batteries contain a "smart chip" that is not available anywhere but FS.

I have two of them. Whenever they need new batteries I simply take them to
a Battery Outfitter store in my area and they fix up and install a battery
pack for $20. Compare that to FreedomScientific's price. Not difficult,
since the battery pack consists of five "AA" batteries wired together in a
special configuration and spot-welded in place. The guy who does it for me
claims it's a five-minute job, and I can attest to that.
