Hi, Ibrahim. Bookshare is using zip files now, and that doesn't affect the
Book Port since we have always unpacked books before transferring them to
the device. The one concern for Book Port users is that Bookshare is using
daisy 2005 files now and is following that standard very closely. Their
books read well, but the titles don't always read correctly when moving from
book to book. I'm not sure what causes that. I think something in their
daisy head tags isn't being handled properly by the Book Port software.
That's my best guess though, not a hard fact. Whatever it is, pressing the
number 2 to start reading will show you quickly which book you're on. I have
been reporting this odd behavior to both companies for months. My sense is
that since Book Port is now considered obsolete by APH, they may not see
this as something vital they have to fix. I can kind of understand it, even
as I wish things were different. Anyhow, Bookshare still does work for us
who use the Book Port. I won't be switching to another reading product until
I have no other good choices.

Hi John.

Yes, the stream definatly has it over recording with the BC or BP products,
but what really gets to me about the stream is that even though its
comparatively new, what are they doing using USB 1.1? Also, whilst the
rechargeable battery pack is a benefit, short battery life and the
proprietary nature of the pack, plus its high price and availability from
only one company prejudices me against it considerably. AA battery can be
bought anywhere at any time and as I travel frequently this is a must have.
I usually use my phone for taking notes and recording memos when the need
arises so am only interested in using BP as a reading machine.
Incidentally, will bookshare.org users still be able to use their BP to read
the content available to them through bookshare? I heard that bookshare
recently changed the way in which they distribute files is all.

All the best, Ibrahim Gucukoglu
