lol. Roger, I'm not gong to report you, because your language does not offend me, but I thank you for posting something I would consider an example of a post that is appropriate because of language. Thinking about what you said about receiving hate mail because of your astheist opinions..no one should have commented on that--.There are people's religious signatures that make me uncomfortable, more because I'm Jewish than because I, too, am an atheist, but I have never and would never ask that they be removed. I simply don' t have to read them. I know these people are good people and I respect their views and if they feel they have to express them, so be it. They were both on the general discussion list. The first time was when I expressed my opinions on censorship and was attacked with a barrage of hate mail. The main complaint was that I was being off topic, butt when it had to do with books, with Bookshare and practices of Bookshare I failed to see how it could be off topic. I think a lot of people consider anything that they disagree with to be off topic. It is interesting that because I spoke out against censorship and attempt to censor me was mounted. The second time I just made an innocent and casual comment that reflected my atheism and a torrent of personal attacks followed. Then it was I, of all people, who was reported for being disruptive. The reaction I have seen here to you is not nearly as strong as the reaction to me and I have not considered resigning from the list because of that. The only reason I have considered resigning is because the traffic is so heavy that it is difficult to keep up with my email at times. My observation is that, like me, you do not intend to offend anyone. You just have, in email at least, a bit of a blunt manner. You might want to consider my attitude rather than resign from the list. My attitude is this. I never try to offend anyone, but at the same time I also never try not to offend anyone either. Trying not to, by resigning from the list or keeping quiet about certain things or by other means of self censorship, is a flat out compromise of my own principles. So, if I accidentally offend someone by something I say then that is just tough shit. So, if you quit because you are trying not to offend someone are you doing yourself a disservice? I think you might be. "The end may justify the means as long as there is something that justifies the end. Pavi just sent me a note saying she had received feedback regarding messages I have recently sent to the list which some other volunteers have judged to be inappropriate. This is kind of personal I know. What is appropriate for one person may not be for another. Rather than unintentionally offending anybody, I am resigning from the volunteer list.
