That's why I think this list is so great. I had either missed or completely forgotten about the elipsis decision and truly appreciated being reminded. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Debby Franson" <the.bee@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi Jill and Cindy!

I remember us deciding on an elipsis. In the table of contents I have been
doing it this way since then:

chapter title, leave a space, elipsis, leave a space, and, finally page
number. If the elipsis is there with no spaces, then the synthesizer says
the word "dot" before the page number as in "dot 153". That is
annoying. I think the way I am doing it is what we all agreed upon late
last fall.

It's questions like this that make it clear that one format doesn't fit
all. As a listener it doesn't make any difference whether the page numbers
are lined up, but as a print-challenged reader, I would suspect that it
probably does. I am primarily a braille reader and though I would prefer
to have the page numbers lined up, this really isn't essential as long as
they are present. This is particularly true because our braille reading
devices only have a 32 cell line. I hope I have made this clear to you,
Cindy, because you are always trying so hard to do what the Bookshare
community seems to want. I will be looking forward to other users'
opinion. Jill

of contents

I'm proofreading a book. The scanner tabbed from chapter titles to page
numbers. I know that tabs are deleted. I've been putting a row
of periods between them (which the book itself, has, actually. I
realize that if the tabs are deleted, the page number will be adjacent to
the chapter title--unless I put one space between them.As a sighted
person, I would find that somewhat difficult to read and would prefer
that the page numbers are further from the words and lined up somewhat.
But I need to know what most of you prefer. Shall I continue putting in
periods and lining up the page numbers as best I can, or do you not mind
having the page number right next to the chapter title?

Cindy
