I do not have a written road map or a specific plan for Aztec. My general
plan for Aztec is in my head, and it is a very loose plan. It is to
basically fill out the modelling and animation tools for Aztec as ideas and
people come and go.

The four main developers have very little time for devote to Aztec on a
consistent basis. There is often a short time where large leaps are made,
and a month of nothing.

I think Aztec would be a good starting point for anyone wanting to write
their own addon tools for a 3D modelling/animation tool, and they could not
afford a commercial product such as 3DS Max or Maya. Its expandable, fairly
easy pick up and most important of all, free.

If you had some people wanting to contribute, it would be great!

Aztec does do this right now. It is just not do very advanced opengl
rendering, such as multitexturing or beyond. It is very simple.

Aztec has a nice scene graph. It should be able to be adatped to handle LOd
and billboarded objects.

Aztec does keyframe animation of almost all of the parameters of all
objects. It does not do a number of things, such as Inverse Kinematics, non
linear editing, editing tangents on keyframes (this should be done soon),
driven keys, and lots of other things.

Aztec is very weak on this. It has several importer/exporters there, but
they are not very good.

There is a lot of overlap with my eventual goals. The main problem is
manpower. The four of us spend very little time on aztec as it is, so
progress is very slow. If you (or any other gorup of people) want a
particular feature, we will try very hard to do it for you.

However, if it is not something we can do very quickly, or not something we
want to do, then I those people to find someone who does have the time to
write an addon themselves. Aztec is has a LGPL license, so there is no need
to even redistribute your changes.
