Jenn and I enjoyed clear sky at the Oregon Star Party in central Oregon. Forest
fire smoke caused a half magnitude of additional extinction, but the outer
corona was still gorgeous.
Since the moon's angular diameter was only slightly larger than that of the sun
(and we were off the centerline), we were treated to a long look at the neon
pink chromosphere. Even my little Pronto at 30x showed the spicules. The best
aspect was to view an eclipse with 900 other star party goers. Paul Knauth was
the only other Phoenix attendee. I'm sure he will be weighing in with his
poetic waxing.
