The ATO is automatically involved, and they are at the bottom of the = list, being an unsecured creditor. -----Original Message----- From: Donald Halley [mailto:donald@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, 5 February 2004 1:25 PM To: austechwriter@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: atw: Re: Advice wanted for a newly unemployed technical writer Why get the ATO involved? I think that they are way up the list in terms = =3D of who gets paid first. Obvious first points of contact would be the Australian Taxation Office re. the unpaid tax and super - maybe they have some sort = =3D of authority to attempt to recover the funds as a creditor? Dept of =3D Employment, Workplace Relations & Small Business might be another good source of =3D help. (On the other hand, this is the government - so she may waste an =3D afternoon talking to a pack of tossers who want to leave this in the Too Hard =3D Basket - hopefully not!). What else? Assume she's not a union member, and obviously it's a bit =3D late to join one now - there may be people in one of the big unions who have the legal nous to advise her on her rights though. And last but not least - = =3D any well known ambulance chasers up there? I hesistate to recommend placing oneself in the clutches of a no-win, no-fee legal firm, but she may be = =3D able to glean some useful advice at the preliminary interview (then nick off without signing her soul away!).
