Sod's Law being what it is, having bought one yesterday I got an email from
Focusrite this morning which tells me that the 3rd Gen version comes preset
in a 'mode' that requires the Windows control software! However there seems
to be a potential 'fix' using one of the magical passes along the lines of
"switch on the device whilst holding down a button for 10 seconds whilst
standing on one leg and muttering mystic phrases...". So I guess I'll have
to try that. If it doesn't work I'll have a spare 2i2!
