I had a few teething problems like that when I started using SS but I
got round them by zipping the offending applications or excluding them
from the backup. There was one app in particular that had a lot of
filenames containing 8-bit characters.
(Another one to watch out for, since I've been battling it all day today,
is that Windows' max file path is smaller than RISC OS' at roughly
200chars. There's the potential there for *very* deep folder structures
to cause issues. This one always makes me smile, in a way, because
everyone expects Windows to be soooo good for that kind of thing, yet RISC
OS actually handles longer paths!)
I don't have any very deep structures. !NewsDir is probably the
deepest but the spool directories have only 1- or 2-character names.

I don't want a "user experience" - I just want stuff that works.
