I think I've sorted out the problems with magic characters (by hiding
or renaming the files) but the tree file corruption appears to be
random, spasmodic and not associated with dodgy filenames.
If I'm right in saying that the tree file is a record of the file and
directory structure of the local disc it's difficult to understand how
file transfer issues could cause it to go doo-lally.
So there's something very subtle that's causing SS to miss out random
lines whilst keeping the indentation correct. It's possible that the
missing lines aren't random but are regular, but without searching out
all the missing <file> tags it's difficult to say. That would be
tedious because a missing file tag doesn't cause an error.
