I've reverted to the previous version of RO I was using (a nightly
build of 5.25 from August) so I get email functionality back.
Do you use the Weight rule? I.e. is the NSQ module loaded? I've had
issues with that with RISC OS 5 on RPCEmu for years (which is the main
reason I'm using RO 4.39). It was never a problem with RO 5 on real
ARM hardware though, so I assumed it had to do with RPCEmu.

No, I'm not using the NSQ module. (I had to trawl through the Help
to find out what Weight is, in order to be reasonably sure that I'm
not using it.) *help nsq -> No help found, and that's after AS has
completed a run and fetched my mail.
One vital piece of information that I failed to report is that the
AODT is on start-up. AS is one of the apps that I run on machine
startup.
Odd. AS itself doesn't use memory outside the wimp slot, though it does
claim some memory above HIMEM on start-up. I suppose that's when things
go wrong, but why? I don't see anything suspicious in the code.
