PDF and access to the format is a complex issue, but Iain is basically right in what he's saying. I did come across a file the other week that didn't give me an option to save as text in the save-as dialogue though, but perhaps that was a limitation imposed tby the author, which given that the subject matter was disability related, seems at the least unhelpful. Certainly though many VI users still find PDf's a hassle. One thing that seems lacking is the number of elements you can use for navigation within a PDF. This though seems to be down to more than limitations of MSAA as a thread on GW Micro's list revealed that getting at more info within PDF's has more to it than that. While the contents of some Adobe files may be inaccessible in the same way that the contents of some Word files are inaccessible, Adobe files have been potentially reasonably accessible now for a number of years. Unfortunately the myth that all PDF files are inaccessible is a myth which sadly has taken too much hold. Are you saying it's irrelevant which version of Windows used, and irrelevant which version of jaws used? Maybe this is the crux of issue, some people are forgetting that not everyone has up-to-date software, and not everyone has same knowledge of their system. Everyone is different in terms of abilities, knowledge, and access to training. It's the same sort of issue for mobility. Just as one may argue: "get your access I.T training then you are ok" One could also argue: "Get a guide dog, or learn how to use long cane then you are ok out there" Sadly real world not as simple as that is it!
