Hi RayOh yes, I know about the K-NFB Reader with a mobile. It was always going to be when and not if. It isn't surprising. I just want to know when and how much?
As for the thread of access to Virgin Trains menus, it wouldn't be practical to expect Braille in this scenario in a situation where they doubtless change daily, even if the order not the choice is juggled around. In my ideal world, I'd have everything in Braille, but it isn't an option.

Jackie, tend to agree on all counts here, and I often wonder whether it is ever really realistic to expect Braille to keep pacewith changing menus. Mind you, and not wanting here to divert the conversation, but I fear the solution soon maybe to be told "read it yourself"! Using the latest, greatest Nokia KNFB soft reader! Trust you've seen the post on that one, (smile). Brings us back, doesn't it, to whiz bang, sort of clever retro solving of the problem of access to print. I was told on a train recently I could read the emergency posters on the train to know what to do just in case an emergency did happen. Now, which pocket did I put that reader in? They are offering to make the menus accessible, even if the format you might want is other than electronic. But I would be happy with that if I had asked and got that response. But menus? Lunching on a train? Phew! I take my own packed lunch wherever I go. I've certainly been known to buy a carton of hot water - oh sorry tea - but that's as far as it goes unless I'm really stuck. Then it's a sandwich and a packet of crisps. Enjoy!! Jackie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Derek Hornby" <derek.hornby_uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "Access-Uk@Freelists. I have also suggested a sort of compromise, thatthemenu details could be send to me via email. ------------------------------------------ "I have been passed a copy of your email of 25 January which yousent toour vtmediaroom address. As part of my role I have responsibility for reviewing arrangementsforpeople with disabilities, and am aware that you have had previous correspondence with our Customer Relations team in respect of ourmenus. As I believe you are aware we change our menus very frequently, andforthis reason felt that the most effective way of getting them to you wouldbeelectronically, as I understand that you have the ability totranscribethem. If you would like them, I can email the pdfs of the menus for thedays youare due to travel with us. Please let me know if this is sufficient for your purposes. We areverykeen to get information to you in the most effective way possible. With best wishes Chris Hagyard Franchise Manager West Coast" ------------------------------------------------ Ok now how easy would it be for them to copy pste the pdf file to the email. If a company is aware we use email, and if they offer to send information in a pdf file, have they acted ina reasonable way given that many of us may have problems with pdf files. I shall be asking Virgin to please send in body of email, or a word document file.
