Good for those who can afford or get fudning for commercial software but nvda has gotten good, really good. Under win 8, it is the first screenreader to really support the gesturing available under win 8. Likely opposition is probably going to be that with a purchased product you get guaranteed support. But in my experience that leaves a lot to be desired. There are lists for support of NVDA and for developers too. The user-base is increasing quickly. I will never go back to paying for access software for the desktop as long as a viable alternative exists. There is no way that being visually impaired should mean you pay 3 or 4 times the cost of your PC just to make it possible for you to use it. And of course there's the endless upgrade treadmill. I'd equate these software vendors with drug dealers who give the first few fixes to customers knowing they will get hooked and come back for more at an inflated price.
