[access-uk] Re: Jaws license annoyance, thinking of swapping to window eyes

Hi Ed

Thanks for those comments.

Can I just ask. Can you copy the original cd to a usb stick, then be able
to install window eyes from that stick? If so, then that would be good
enough for me.

Hi Terry,

Window-Eyes does have its own installation quirks which may or may not
bother you, but I thought I'd point them out.

On a new PC, you will always need a Window-Eyes CD in order to install a
fully licensed version, there is no way of downloading one or a demo to
activate with your serial number post-installation. This can be annoying in
a few circumstances, such as if you bought a Window-Eyes CD a while ago and
only ever updated it by downloading updates without getting an updated CD.
When you install it on a new PC, you would need to install your original
version from a CD then subsequently install one or more updates to get it
up-to-date, or pay for a CD of the latest version. It is also annoying if
the system you install it onto doesn't have a CD drive such as a netbook, as
you will need to by an external drive in order to install it.

I'm afraid I don't consider this to be particularly modern. In my view no
software programme should require you to install it from media such as a DVD
if you don't want to these days.

Jaws already cost an absolute fortune, so to have to then also buy a dongle
on top is simply too much and going too far, just to comply with the way
they licence their product.

From what I now here from window eyes, you are given a serial number, and
can install it on your own pc as many times as you like, instead of keep
begging FS to re-set your keys.

They now tell me that they are only going to provide me with one new key at
a time, due to the amount of times I've previously had it re-set!! I'm
sorry, but that attitude stinks as far as I'm concerned.

Well, now if you forget your dongle or lose it that, in all fairness, is not
FS's fault.

If win eyes works for you, so much the better. You may also want to consider
system access that has lifetime access and comes with a portable version
that you can take whereever you go and which, like nvda, is truly portable.

Hope you find and can finance whatever works best for you!
