Yep 100%
I just find it easier to manage having global at 100% is that 3000x3000 on the
G2 ? Which is for every app at default which is like wise set at 100%, if you
find that the game cannot run at that setting then drop the application setting
to say 80% then it runs at 2400x2400. If you can run it higher then set to 110%
which will run it at 3300x3300.
It’s a shame that all the headsets use different software and methods to get
their results. Even though I run the Index and Quest 2 at 80hz on more or less
the same rendered resolution, the Quest 2 is a sharper picture.
With your system setup I would say it should be able to run rendered resolution
of between 2250x2250 and 2400x2400(which I think both ranges are best for
spotting in this game atm) with MSAAx2 at 90hz. I don’t like using motion
smoothing(steamVR) or ASW(quest 2), so I personally don’t recommend using them,
to many graphic glitches.
Hope you find the setting you like.

I agree with your general points Colin.
However, surely the Application settings either overwrite the Global ones, or
"add" to them in the sense if you go above 100% then you're effectively
sharpening (over sampling)?
The lack of official information on this is deafening. Plus breathless
'tubers who think they know what they're doing, but don't.
As for Fenris_Wolf settings, he has a very highly optimised system that
probably only delivers 90 Hz in cloudless conditions even with his low
latency memory and 3090. Therefore I have little faith in his "performant"
settings.
We mostly face cloudy conditions on MP servers, so as you say, I need to find
balanced setting for those conditions - with the GPU fairly maxed-out.
I've been using the Golden Rules ever since I first set it up.
While it's great for spotting, I do find MSAA is a serious frame rate killer.
I also seem to remember that the devs moved it to the CPU (hence in game
settings rather than nVidia), but I might be wrong on this.
Thanks for the offer of a TS session, but I'd prefer to get clear
understanding first.

I put the global to 100% instead of 150% (as it is on auto) to make the
calculations easier. So if the app is set to 80% then it’s 80% of 100% not
150%, it makes the other individual VR applications easier to adjust, the
baseline(global) is constant only the applications change. IE: If your
global 100% is 2156x2156 the app is set to 80%, the app is running at
1724x1724.
All the information I am using for the G2 is on the forums, mainly from a
guy called SCG fenris wolf who has a G2 and a 3090.

Check out golden rule and absolutely quality VR settings in reverb G2, in
that thread.
In the past (somewhere in the above thread) he said he could not get the G2
to run higher that 60% of 100% at 90hz with a 3090. Now he reckons he can
run it at 100% of 100% using motion smoothing (45hz).
So no I reckon you will not be able to run at 100% of 100% with your setup
at 90hz, but not having a G2 I am mainly going by info provided by others,
as above.
Ultimately it’s all about balance, what you are aiming for is smoothness no
ghosting of objects, wing movement, and aircraft movement at your refresh
rate ie 90hz, so maintaining 90fps.
So if you take the 60% of 100% then use MSAA to add sharpness then that
might be what you like the look of. I use the in game sharpen setting as
well btw.
The in game settings MSAA, clouds, do kill frame rate the higher the
setting. So if you can get away with not using MSAA as the resolution you
have set is sharp enough then don’t use it, FXAA is not as good as MSAA and
causes some graphic artefacts, so I don’t use it.
If you want to talk about it over TS I can meet up one evening if you want
to?

Il2 a bit over 100% (100% seems to mean the same as Global setting).
My reasoning was that the G2 can't be run at 100% with clouds, so step down
the res, but regain some sharpness with the signal processing effect of the
Il2 settings being above the Global.
Now you're suggesting the other way around! Can you explain the reasoning?
