This email prompted me to join in with you guys because I use SR and Audacity
in conjunction all the time. I only have the demo, so what I often do is
create something with SR that cannot be done with Audacity as easily, set
Audacity's Interface Host to Windows Wassapi (this only works on Windows 7),
and the recording device to Speakers loopback - it will capture the audio
perfectly (i.e. exactly the same level as it is when played, no static, no
nothing, if you mute your volume it will still be recording). From SR's end
it introduces some noise when you line it up and invert-mix it with the
original (i.e. have the file you created, save the Loopback recording with
Audacity, open that file in new window with SR, run Trim Silence in both
files with the parameter -500, you'll see what I mean. I'm surprised nobody
has discovered loopback yet. But there's a danger of using Loopback; what if
the recording is copyright? But if it's either a recording from online that
you would like to save but there's no link to an audio file? Or what if you
can't afford the full version of SR just the demo, there's a workaround to it
- maybe 5 percent imperfect for the difference between saving a file with SR
itself and recording your project via Loopback with Audacity. Oh, and if you
use Jaws, you'll need to edit it out, I often turn speech off (insert, space,
S). And by the way, I also play bagpipes - and I have even done something
with Studio Recorder involving fast looping in order to make samples for
"electronic bagpipes", there really are such things. And to answer the
question of ripping a Cd if that's what you mean, you can just record the
entire Cd playing with Audacity (set to Loopback), save it as a Wav file, and
then split it by the track with Studio Recorder if you have the full version.
I noticed that with NCH Cd ripper, the file for each track often has a
"jitter" at the beginning, which, to me, dehances the track, if you will.
I'm an audio perfectionist so I feel like I'd be a good candidate if you
people need any help. For instance, how do you piece together certain audio
files without it having an obvious click (oh, that was edited) - been there,
discovered the solution, you name it. I think it takes a blind person, a set
of ears with perfect pitch, who plays bagpipes, and did all of this
discovering in his spare time, all on his own. Alright, sorry for being
rather long, but I really like Emails with a lot of detail and vividity,
because that's just my style. Like I said I'm there to help if you need it -
I may not be in IT but given my ears, audio is something at which I'm
absolutely adept. Thanks

If you want to get out extraneous background noise try using the Noise
Reduction effect in Audacity. Audacity is free and works well with screen
readers.

Mary, not sure where to find the setting to change volume on input devices
in Studio Recorder.
The sample rate for my Wave format is set at 44100, is that where it should
be?
Also is there a way to reduce the background surface noise?

Have you gone into Studio Recorder's menus and adjusted the options?
Select wave devices might have some helpfuyl options. Have you adjusted the
input device's volume when recording?
In Windows 7, when you open the mixer in the system tray, are all the
percentages at 100 percent, including the sound card, system sounds, and the
microphone volume?
