Since I have finished dogs in both rings..I am speaking from experience. Just for clarification...two wrongs don't make a right..dragging toes and dead tails are just as faulty in my eyes as weak backs, straight pasterns, improper shoulders and a lack of PROPER rear angulation.. Rewarding dogs that lack the motion that is unique to our breed because of insufficiencies is as incorrect as rewarding dragging toes, over angulation. Neither can be correct when viewed from the side. If movement is not important..then perhaps when need to just photograph our dogs..place the pictures on a table and ask the judge to pick the prettiest dog with the most shapely outline and that has the reddest pigment from a picture. To me..many(but not all) all-rounders don't appreciate side gait..and why would they? How many other breeds place as much emphasis on sidegait and go into the depth of describing sidegait as our breed standard does? Most other breeds are in fact simply judged on coming and going, standing and overall appearance and presentation.C.Grainger > [Original Message] > From: Daleen Dunphy <amaleen@xxxxxxxxxx> > To: <showgsd-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Date: 12/5/2005 6:08:24 PM > Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: Why ? > > At 03:35 PM 12/5/2005 -0600, hckryhillgsd@xxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: > >In nearly every breed..good feet, strong > >pasterns, straight bone, clean coming and going, only moderate angulation > >in the rear and a good head piece with allot of expression are important. > > I can't be the only person who has ever heard someone say their dog has so > much rear or a sloppy rear that there is no way they can go in a all breed ring > but they will show the dog in specialties cus that rear can be forgiven. > What about those dragging toes?
