Many of the really good GSDs do well in both rings, and they should. A dog
that I had awarded WD at an all breed (major ) a few weeks ago was RWD at
a specialty this week end (major ). The problem is that many of the all breed
judges are poorly educated in our breed; thus, dogs who are not really what we
serious breeders are aiming for can often win. It used to be that the really
good
dog in the all breed ring looked different, and that confused many of the
judges.
Today, we are seeing more and more really good ones in the AB ring. That is
good, but what we really need is better judges' education. It is only logical
that a person who has bred, raised, shown, and studied a breed for many years
will be a better judge than one who has attended a couple of seminars.
