The Century and Pacemaker are more forgiving with 65s than the miniature Speed. Supposedly, you can use some shorter lenses with
them. Search graflex.org for more...

The problem with the Miniature is that the inside part of the rail is fixed. On later cameras its coupled to the main focus rail and moves with the focus knobs. So, If you have a WA lens that will focus only on the fixed rail you must sort of slide it with your fingers, not exactly a precision method. The Miniature Speed Graphic predated the Anniversary series (1939 or 1940) and was a precursor to some of the improvements made to the pre-Anniversary series in larger sizes. For example, it has focus knobs on both sides, but, like the pre-Anniversary cameras it does not have the coupled inner rail. The Miniature was the only 3x4 Graphic available until the Anniversary series was replaced with the Pacemaker series in 1947. The Pacemaker came in 2x3 and the Miniature was discontinued. This was also the time when the Crown Graphic was introduced. This is similar to the Speed Graphic but without the focal-plane shutter. Crown boxes are shallower and the weight is less than the Speed. While the Crown was introduced as a sort of economy camera it became popular because many press and commercial photographers never used the FP shutter and preferred the lighter weight and greater compactness. Crown Graphics tend to sell for significantly more now than Speed Graphics. I learned how to use a press camera using a 4x5 Crown. It has a somewhat shorter space between the film and minimum focus distance because it does not have to clear the back shutter.
