Well, when I went it this, I didn't rely on only SpamBayes. On my websites I used the IP list from the Harvester Project to block known web crawling spam bots from crawling for my contact information on my website. This was done through the htaccess file. And just in case one of those nasty critters got through I further encrypted all my email addresses with JavaScript so that while clickable to the user, a bot can't crawl it (yet). Overall my spam from my websites since I started this has been 1 maybe every 2 months. And spam in my personal accounts (when I was on dial-up) went from about 20 per day to about 1 or 2 most where shuttled to the deleted folder by SpamBayes. Since I have went to broadband, my spam rate is like 1 or 2 a month (but it's usually forwarded email from friends. You know the funny joke stuff). So outside spam hasn't had time to find my address yet. And I'm hoping to keep it that way. That Harvester Project is one Project along with United Devices that almost makes me feel like the Internet ain't totally going to you know where. Hi Dave! As usual, we're working along the same lines <chuckle> I decided to stop using Mailwasher as I was spending too much time=20 chasing SPAM. Due to several issues, I finally gave up the whole mess=20 and got new E-Mail addresses. This cut my SPAM from 30-50 per day to=20 1-2 per month. I also removed my website (with E-Mail addy on it). =20 Lastly, at the recommendation of someone on this list, I started using=20 a temporary e-mail address for most purchases, information sites, etc.=20 The temporary address can be found at: http://jetable.org/ It works wonderfully. I set it for the maximum time (eight days if=20 memory serves me right) and and it works seamlessly. Doing this keeps=20 my e-mail addy from being spread around. If I do see the need for a SPAM program, my first decision will be=20 whether to get a new address..........which isn't all that hard to=20 handle once a year or two, or use a SPAM program. From what I've=20 read, though, should I choose to use a SPAM program, I'd use the=20 SpamBayes program as well.=20 Regards from the "Keyboard Cowboy", ,,,,,,,, =D4=BF=D4=AC Cincinnati, Ohio Scottsdale, Arizona --------------------------------- Monday, 9/29/2003, @ 10:09:53 AM EST --------------------------------- If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
