Jan,
Ok. Everything you need to do is exactly the same as what you did to
transfer them to the new desktop machine. The only difference is that
you'll also need to tell the laptop to NOT delete the messages it downloads
from the server when it gets new email. Below are the steps to doing that
for Outlook Express. If the laptop is a Vista system, it uses Windows Mail
instead. The steps might be the same, but I have no way of verifying that
for you.

Before transferring the DBX files, open up OE and go to Tools > Accounts and
enter the email accounts you want the laptop to be able to access. You will
most likely need to already have the settings written down from the old
system before starting this. When you're finished entering the email
accounts, open each account that will also be read by your new desktop
system, click on the Advanced tab and place a check next to the line that
reads "Leave a copy of messages on server." Also make sure that the two
boxes under that one are NOT checked. By doing this, you will be able to
download and read your messages on the laptop (wherever you can get an
internet connection), but your home desktop system will still be able to
download them again. This will allow you to keep any and all of the posts
you decide to save all on one computer. In other words, reading messages on
your laptop will in no way interfere with your ability to keep all of your
email on your home system. If you (or anyone else following this thread)
are not quite seeing the benefit of this approach, let me know and I'll
explain it another way. :O)

Peace,
GMan
