   There is a difference in discharge between just cutting the power to a 
piece of equipment and unplugging it.  I still suggest a UPS on his desk with 
the 
plugs facing him.  Maybe not beautiful, but it is practical.
   Since I've learned this lesson, every so often, I power down everything 
and physically unplug each component for about 30 minutes. Surprising how many 
things no longer go bump in the night after that.
