Subject: RE: Coke switches to DB2!!

I will not say that I'm surprised. SAP and Oracle have been at each
other's throats for years now and Yes SAP will not certify a release 1
version of Oracle, simply out of spite. IBM is not a competitor with
SAP's core business like Oracle is so they get along better. Having
worked with both's technology (SAP and Oracle) I think Oracle has a more
flexible system that bends to a businesses needs, while SAP wants you to
bend to theirs. I was involved in a SAP migration from Oracle 9i to 10g
a couple of years ago where we also had to move from HP-UX to AIX. SAP
would not certify using transportable database to make the move but
instead wanted the customer to burn up 7 to 10 days of down time to go
through the import/export route. As far as I know they are not
certifying data pump to move data either, and they did not certify Grid
Control. SAP requires you to stay in their box and thinking outside of
it is not allowed.

My apologies to those out there that have a better opinion of SAP.

Any comments on this event? I'd be less shocked if they said SQL Server.
I did some DB2 work maybe 2 years ago. Not a product I was all that
impressed with.
