An unmoderated forum for the discussion of anything to do with using Oracle databases.
Maintain your subscription:
New subscribers to this list are not able to post messages at first.
To get this privilege turned on, you must email me.
If you are using an anonymous email address, you must identify yourself.
I also like to know what city you live in and what company you work for.
Please be sure to send the request from the address for which you want the privilege, not from some other address.
Please avoid being rude or impatient.
Please subscribe to the list before asking for the posting privilege.
You can subscribe by entering your email address in the text box at the top of this page, selecting "Subscribe" from the drop-down list of actions, and then replying to the confirmation email that will be sent to you.
These guidelines are intended to minimize the number of emails that subscribers receive, and to maximize the value of those emails.
- no unprofessional language or content, including flames
- all threads must relate to using Oracle databases
- all replies must add some value
- delete unnecessary lines from your replies
In general, the value density of threads is greatest if the initiator asks for responses off the list and then later posts a summary of those responses to the list.
When starting a thread, please include all the information that might be relevant - in particular, version information and solutions already attempted or considered.
Before replying, please think twice about whether your message should be sent privately, or to the whole list.
If it does not add value, send it privately.
If you are asking for more information, then email the questioner directly and suggest that they post a follow-up to the list with the extra information required.
Please don't send bare thank-you messages to the list, unless you also have resolution information to include, or off-list responses to summarize.
Finally, please don't send test messages to the list.
If in doubt about anything, please ask me before you post.
The posting privilege is permanently withdrawn from anyone who repeatedly and willfully breaches the posting guidelines.
Less serious breaches generally result in a short-term ban on posting for a few weeks.
So far, only two people have been banned from posting permanently, although many have served short-term suspensions.
If you want to complain about some alleged breach of the posting guidelines, please email the persons concerned privately.
If that does not work, contact me.
Do not discuss alleged breaches of the posting guidelines or any other list administration issues on the list.
Replies longer than 20 body lines are rejected if more than 80% of the body lines are quoted from previous messages.
When sending short replies to long messages, you may need to trim out irrelevant portions of the original message.
If you hit this limit, you will get a rejection note back from the list server.
Posts with bodies greater than 20480 bytes are rejected.
This is normally due to verbose formatting of the HTML part of posts that contain text that has been cut and pasted.
The blowout can be as much as 50:1 depending on your email application.
If you hit this limit, your post will be rejected silently!
Wait for two hours, and if your post is still not visible in the archives,
then you may resend the message in plain text format only.
To avoid sending out-of-office messages to everyone who posts to the list, please ensure that you switch your account into DIGEST or VACATION mode before enabling out-of-office replies.
You can use the HTML form at the top of this page to turn DIGEST and VACATION modes on and off.
You will not receive emails from the list while you are in VACATION mode.
In DIGEST mode you will get one aggregate email each day.
If someone else forgets to do so, please forward their out-of-office messages to me so that they can be put into digest mode.
PS: If emailing me via the freelists.org list administrator links above fails, then try this.
