Rich,

I see your debate but would argue that the balance weights for the
motion are opposite to the balance weights for the wheels [relative to
your post].......no doubt though someone will come up with a good case
for this not to be so.

Can I just ask - if you have an inside cylindered loco, are the balance
weights on the cranks inside the wheels there to balance out the motion
of the connecting rods; and are the balance weights on the wheels there
to balance out the motion of the connecting rods?

If that is the case, does is matter what the orientation of the outside
weights and cranks are relative to the inside?
