Those who wish to use a demo of WIndow Eyes need to be somewhat familiar
with the standard windows commands or use the alt menus. There are not as
many quick keys as JAWS has. That is one reason Window Eyes is considered to
be a more difficult program to use but then if one is familiar with windows
it is not so bad. Example JAWS has seperate keyboard commands to go to
headers and links while WIndow Eyes has one command and you can select from
a dialog box which feature you wish to investigate further.
Both of the programs have good things about them. There should be less
competition between the two companies if indeed both of the purposes is to
make computer use easier for blind individuals. Most programs that one buys
comes with free lifetime updates and upgrades. While I can see a fee basis
for WIndow Eyes and JAWS I think if the cost of the programs and the
upgrades would be less expensive than more blind individuals would be able
to afford them. Yes I know that both companies need money to keep operating
but for the cost of the programs and upgrades there should definitely be
majoy improvements in not only what they programs can do in conjunction with
other programs but also what they can do by themselves. One problem is the
constant changing of computer languages which hinders some developments and
cause some of the problems we see in the newest versions of JAWS.
