Would it really be the case? From what I am aware, most manufacturers
will load the Windows machines with trial software from *reputed*
vendors, which lowers the cost of the machine setting back some of the
higher cost. So, now the machine isn't priced too high as compared to
the Linux/DOS offering.
Unfortunately most end users think that actual cost of laptop hardware
is what the vendor is selling (adding windows cost)
Hence these hardware vendors and M$ were happily selling OEM's on
laptops in India. But netbooks could potentially cause/is
already(eeepc + xandros) causing damage to windows OEM sales.
Vista hasn't been sold well hence M$ is pitching hopes on future
Windows 7 sales if almost 1/2 market would have been occupied ( if
linux bundled netbooks were allowed to sell) M$ never could sell
future windows 7 atleast to 25 % of its customers .
No I am not just speculating . Just go have a chat with windows
netbook users you will find what kind of hole M$ has stuck in LOL (not
one but many people removing default xp and going to ubuntu netbook
remix)
Anyways chrome os hopefully could get some nice drivers into the
kernel with google pushing the hardware vendors ... the future is
bright :)
