True, but it's not because they lack initiative. There are several reports
on the net from good sources that Microsoft is putting tremendous pressure
on Netbook manufacturers not to use Linux (apart from giving heavy discounts
on XP) because they're really scared the low price point can become a entry
point for Linux into consumer computing.
M$ definitely is afraid and is putting pressure I agree.
The companies which I mentioned aka "Dell,Asus,Acer,HP,IBM" have a
special relationship with GNU/Linux
IBM - contributes a lot to kernel ,apache,eclipse .. the list goes on
HP - offers/used to offer debian support in servers .(not sure)
Acer - As you mentioned .. the android plan .
Asus - Obviously the EEEPC came(notice the past tense) with Xandros in
USA and Europe.
Dell - Ubuntu netbooks and laptops .. (can we still buy them in India?? )
Well I am not sure Win 7 sales will boost up in netbooks , but I am
seeing people demanding those companies for a refund on windows
license price.
If we demand more refunds then I guess those companies will realise
the demand for GNU/Linux machines .
On the other side Redhat,Novell and Cannonical please wake up .. even
you can put the pressure.. or will you wait till the big daddy google
comes and pushes chrome OS
