Acer Aspire One models: 10.1" Rs 20,750 and 11.1" Rs 23,350.
Both come with 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, blue tooth, wifi. I believe
the 11.1" model comes with a 7hr battery. The 11.1" sounds nice.
Seems kinda odd that they'd want to include XP Home and pay
the M$ tax. That could also be one reason why netbook prices
have started creeping up again, after reaching the Rs.15k price
point last year. But then again, these new machines come with
upgraded HW, including larger/higher resolution screens and
newer processors.
There's an Acer model (751H) with a 1364x768 widescreen
display which only comes with XP Home. It was kinda
tempting, but I decided to wait for prices to drop at the
next model refresh before buying one.
The other alternative is pre-owned sub-notebooks like
the Dell Inspiron 600m or Toshiba Portege, from places
like EBay or Craigslist. These often come fully loaded
with XGA/SXGA+ displays and DVD writers, and the
HD, RAM and processor are often upgradable. Having
a built-in optical drive is a big plus compared to a
netbook. Check out the Toshiba Portege A200 - one
was on Craigslist Bangalore a short while ago.
