Hi
The desktop is as unresponsive as before on my
machine though (GNOME i.e.).
Sounds like we need GNOME chart now ;-). What system configuration is
this? See if the following command helps.
gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/metacity/general/reduced_resources true
Use system-config-services or ntsysv to turn off services/deamons you dont use.
Make sure you have the relevant updates
