Hi Chuck,

please be careful and start reading the documentation!

Definition:
A hot swap is the replacement of a hard drive, CD-ROM drive, power
supply, or other device with a similar device while the computer system
using it remains in operation. The replacement can be because of a
device failure.

Hot swapping works by providing a rack or enclosure for the device that
provides an appearance to the computer's bus or I/O controller that the
device is still there while it's being removed and replaced with another
device.

! There is no word about exchanging a drive to get the data or so!!!

It is only for replacing broken drives!!!

Your data will be corrupted if you do this. It is a game of chance what
you try to do.

The RAID- and or SCSI-controller don't have a chance to save valid data
because there is no signal that introduces your wish to pull out the
disk.

There is only a "signal" that there is something wrong and prevents the
controller from using the interface.
