Agree and it's not really prefering PCI over firewire it all depends
on what you have and what you want to do. As I said earlyer I would
also rather go PCI when wanting large amounts of channels, going
firewire when wanting to record 48 or 64 channels would just be a
nightmare.
Example if I already have a 64 channel digital desk with propper pre
amps and ADAT outputs, a 64 channel RME hammerfold PCI card would be
my first option I wouldn't even consider something else. Or if I
already have a 64 channel analog desk with propper pre amps and I have
a SSL analog to digital converter, then I would also get a RME
hammerfold PCI card. But if I only want to record 16, 24 or even 32
tracks on a more limited budget, then I'll go for two Focusrite safire
pro 40 interfaces and two 8 channel pre amp units.
