I have fixed all my problems with the bn and haven't had to
reset or anything in 3 days.

Well, I'll say that what the BN does, most of the time it does
well. I have an mPower, 8.1, and it works well. I use it for
reading, mostly, and a calculator. I love the calculator on the
BN. I don't think any company for the blind have ever achieved
such a great calculator.

Hi Dave and all. It is great to see these positive messages
about the BN. I
get fed up at times with people complaining that the BN doesn't
do all they
want it to do, the things that would require major updates to
both software
and hardware. I am very happy with my Apex it does all I need it
to do and I
have a PC for those things the Apex can't handle. My only
complaint about
humanware is that they stopped supporting the PK and haven't
offered a
replacement. Because of this I have just recieved a grant which
I will be
using to buy a braille sence mini to replace my out of date PK.
As I say if
humanware had an option like the PK I would happily buy it
because there are
times I can't take my Apex with me due to medical issues so need
a lighter
and smaller machine to take instead.

Well that was way more then I was going to say but I can say it
has been
good to open up some messages from happy BN users.

Hi Carlos and everyone

I have used a range of technology over the past 10 years
including a pc with
JAWS and the Scannor, also supplied by Humanware. Although there
are times
when my Apex crashes, seizes up etc, on reflection it doesn't
misbehave any
more than the other pieces of tech I have mentioned. What I can
say as a
braille user is that it's provided me with more independence in
the
workplace than I had prior to owning one. I can genuinely say 3
years on
from first receiving it is that without it I don't think I would
be able to
do my job these days without it. The other positive element to
go with this
is the support that is there from the staff at Humanware. I have
mentioned
Tom before from the office in the uk, any issue relating to the
Apex I can
email him about and get a prompt response within no more than an
hour. So,
in conclusion, yes wecan. All moan about the kit we are using
but I have
both thumbs up to the Apex as it is a quality piece of kit.

All the best from Dave

Hi all,

I hope this isn't off topic. I'm just expressing my thoughts
about the
BrailleNote.

I'm getting very annoyed by the bn's instability. I've been
experiencing
many bugs with the BrailleNote lately. My bn has frozen or just
locked up
out of nowhere, refused to turn on, choked on digital talking
books and
caused me to lose all my data, didn't load some pages in Keyweb,
given me
a million exception command and data misalignment messages, etc
and I've
had to reset millions of times. Also, some touch cursor keys
have been
getting damaged. I've already sent it twice to Humanware for
repair: the
first time was because the braille display got damaged and the
second time
was because of a damaged touch cursor key. Both times were
months from
each other. To be more specific, I sent my bn for repair the
first time
last April and then in August. Early last month, I started
having
problems with other touch cursor keys, but then they stopped
because I
sprayed the display with compressed air. However, now I'm
having problems
again with a touch cursor key. It isn't working.

The BrailleNote has indeed been a helpful device since I use it
for almost
everything including for school and to surf the Internet.
However, the
constant bugs are really irritating. If this continues, I may
just lose
my faith in the BrailleNote.
