With nonfiction, if the writing is too scholarly, or tedious. In fiction, if the writing is "bad," i.e. unimaginative, or too simple, like a grade-schoolers. Or if I cannot relate emotionally with the characters; or if the characters are are not well-rounded but are "flat," or cardboard. I can't really explain it. Or if the plot doesn't capture my attention almost right away. I don't care for a lot of description, either, but that can be skipped to get to the next plot point or dialogue. Unfortunately, I'm not good at describing what I don't like. I suspect someone else will say exactly what I mean. grin G.Cindy ***WISH LIST (CALLED REQUESTED ADDITIONS TO THE BOOKSHARE COLLECTION)IS AVAILABLE AT http://people.delphiforums.com/jamiecalton/Book_Requests.htm http://www.friendsofbookshare.org/ http://studentpages.alma.edu/~07jmyate/book_requests.htm A LIST OF BOOKS CURRENTLY BEING SCANNED IS AVAILABLE AT http://people.delphiforums.com/jamiecalton/scanning.html Jake's site for useful links: http://www.jbrownell.com/bkslinks.html --- On Sun, 6/22/08, Bob <rwiley@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > From: Bob <rwiley@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Subject: [bookshare-discuss] In your opinion, what makes a book bad. > To: bookshare-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Date: Sunday, June 22, 2008, 5:19 PM > We often discuss books we've read and enjoyed: and > that's how it should be. > > However, I'm just curious about what makes a book not > click for you. > > I think for me, part of the thing that makes a book not > work is it's unbelievability factor.
