Not if you did it. LOL. You'd get the details right, at least. And hey, I love sci-fi. But if your main character, a spaceship piloting blind guy spent the whole book being right about everything, having sex with random space androids, and lecturing the reader about his political views (which coincidentally match your own), then yeah, it would be bad. LOL.
