Did you ever see the movie Titanic, A pretty good 2 hour move pack in to
about 3 and half hours?
There a strong hansom guy spends the entire movie getting saved by the
female lead.
To bad she forgot his waterwings. The movie might have had a happier ending.

For me, the characters have to be strong. It's the characters as much as
the plot. Oh, and I can't stand winy helpless "oh great handsome guy save my
poor little dainty female self cuz I can't possibly do anything for myself"
lead characters. I've put down many a book because of helpless female leads
that drove me batty. A friend of mine calls those books TAW's - throw at
wall. Too bad I can't do that with bookshare books though. *giggle*

I don't like books with lots of bad language. A book has to grab my
attention right away and be pretty fast paced. The book has to have a plot.
If the book is nonfiction, it can't be dry and accademic.

We often discuss books we've read and enjoyed: and that's how it should
be.

However, I'm just curious about what makes a book not click for you.

I think for me, part of the thing that makes a book not work is it's
unbelievability factor. If the author gives his/her protagonist ancient
powers that materialize right at the point where they are needed to enhance
the plot's development. Kind of like the shoes that Dorthy uses to get out
of Oz. That's usually where I throw the book down in disgust and go watch
fox tv, or something.

What's your "watch fox tv" breaking point?
