I think Liz is right . I can still hear enough even with my loss to hear chat room stuff and audio online, but can imagine how frustrating that muight be if you could not. Any ideas what we can do or what bookshare can do to include someone in her situation? It would be a shame to lose volunteers just because they didn't have complete access to everything. Are there any programs that would put transcripts online? ----- Original Message ----- From: "liz halperin" <lizzersagain@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Dang! Yet another interview, like Jim's last fall, that will be auditory-only based and I (and who knows how many others who don't say anything) can't access. Chat rooms inaccessible, bummer but personally accepted. Info interviews though, that bothers me personally that I cannotaccess them. Suppose BS blew a few bucks for real time captioner right then,or cheaper, paid a transciptionist next day who would then transcribe the interviews and BS then put them in accessible formats? Hmm??? I'm feelingvery left out and unconsidered, both for myself and for other volunteers who haven't said anything but are also unable to discriminate speech either dueto hearing loss or language processing disorders, or whatever. Maybe anyone who supports this idea could chime in? Liz, still deaf-blind in Portland (PDX)--11 days till guide dog school! How does a columnist go about verifying that facts he has found are true? How much time goes in to writing a column and does it vary and why? Where do ideas come from? If you have ever wondered about any of these things, our next Books and Beyond will answer those questions and much more. Our guest, Dave Lieber, is a multifaceted individual and wears a number of hats. He is a columnist, motivational speaker and co-founder of Summer Santa Inc., a charity helpful to children in north Texas. He was the 2002 recipient of the Will Rogers Humanitarian award, and so much more. What part does ethics play in journalism? What can columnists writing today do to support up and coming writers? What is a video columnist? How can we best help children develop potential within themselves that will maximize their success tomorrow. Dave lieber is a dynamic speaker who will inspire you with stimulating stories. Here is a short biography and information about where you can find out more about him and his work on the web.
