I would call your local cable tv company on this. I believe that
analog basic tv subscription you have should still work past
Feb. 2009 but please call your cable company.

If you decide to move to the digital system you may want to buy
an inexpensive remoe control to replace the digital remote
control you say isn't too good to use. Have that inexpensive
remote ready for the technician to setup for you when they visit
and do the new installation. It's up to you. Just giving you
some ideas.
