Hi Cindy,
I wrote to Gustavo a few weeks back and one of the questions I asked him was, in what order are the books approved?

He said that he starts at the top of the queue and works his way down.

This of course begs the question, what order does the queue display in?

From my own observations as to how the system works, I'm guessing the order is by the submit_title_id number. This is the unique number that identifies a book in the BookShare database. These numbers are given in succession, the latest books I believe are in the 35,000 id number range.

The implications of such a sort are this. If a book stays in the system for a long period of time, either on the step one page, out for validation or a combination of the two, when validated the book is near the bottom of the list for admin approvals.

Again, this is all supposition, but it stands to reason that a lot of books that are submitted and then quickly validated make their way onto the site very quickly, while others that sit in the system, generally sit longer in the admin queue as well.

There are undoubtedly books that don't fit this pattern. If a book requires some research as to making sure copyright information or something similar is correct, Gustavo might wait until he has a handful of these books before he starts work on them. Again, I don't know if this is the case, but it would be logical.

Gustavo also said not to worry, books haven't disappeared, he's just finding time constraints don't allow him to empty out his queue as often as we'd all like.

Tom, what are the titles in the Dreamland series? I
did see Satan's Tail on the list of books being
validated, but of course that list is almost a month
old.

I don't know what order they use to get the books of
the Admin.Q--taking the more recently published books
first, or books validated by people they know do an
excellent job--but I don't think it's the latter,
because apparently the copy of Return to the City of
White Donkeys that was just added to the collection is
missing at least two pages and has no poem titles,
among other things. Books I validated back in
November were requested by people who wanted to read
them, and It's Valentine's Day, which I I think Lissi
uploaded very recently, so it would get into the
collection in time for the holiday, isn't in yet.

I do hope that when a new person is hired, clearing
the Admin Q is one of his/her first jobs--that and
checking the wish list daily so that people who take
books from there to scan don't repeat what someone
else has already done because the book wasn't removed
from the list.

Hi Everyone, been laying low for a while. But I
have a question, do you think Gustavo will ever get
to the bottom of the administrative Q? Still have
books sitting there from September, and my Dreamland
series by Dale Brown has-never been found
apparently, lost, "lost beneath the streets of
Boston," their fate never to be learned, as the song
goes. The answers I get are vague, that the books
are out being edited, since May or June? Tom
