In December we watched many Turkey Vultures pass by, obviously in migration
mode and intent on being somewhere further south. Also, at about that time,
Cedar Waxwings disappeared (last recorded here on 12/13). I’d been wondering
if their advanced weather report had called for harsh weather and if this would
be one of those Waxwingless winters.
So, I was delighted to step outside a few minutes ago and find at least seven
Waxwings in the pin oak and crab apple trees, overlooking the motherlode of
berries on our two holly bushes. (Waxwing photo link below).
The Mockingbirds apparently have not discovered the berry-thieving intruders,
yet. When they do, there will certainly be a ruckus.
